Description: Join me for an energizing workshop where you will reconnect with your love for playing and singing, explore ways to enhance your clinical musicing and enhance your clinical musicianship. Have your primary instrument and/or voice, piano, and guitar nearby. Resources will be provided.
Biography: Dr. Suzanne Sorel is a music therapist, music therapy educator, and clinical supervisor with over 30 years of experience. She is a Level III certified Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy trainer and has presented workshops regionally, nationally, and internationally. She is the author of Becoming a Music-Centered Therapist (2022), Barcelona Publishers, along with multiple chapters in the music therapy texts and musical compositions for use in therapy and education.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will identify musical strengths and explore them on a preferred instrument. (CBMT: V. Professional Development and Responsibilities: A. Professional Development 1. Assess areas for professional growth, prioritize, and establish a plan of action. 2. Integrate current research and literature in music therapy and related disciplines. 3. Participate in continuing education. 4. Engage in collaborative work with colleagues. 6. Expand musicianship, leadership skills, and therapeutic effectiveness).
Participants will add two to three new musical shades to their familiar music to be used in clinical sessions. (CBMT: III. Treatment Implementation and Documentation: A. Implementation 2. Provide individualized music therapy experiences to address client’s needs. g. improvises using instruments, voice, or movement, bb. Share musical experience and expression with clients).
Participants will develop proficiency in playing and/or singing parts of a new scale, mode, idiom, or musical style. (CBMT: V. A. 6. Expand musicianship, leadership skills, and therapeutic effectiveness, III. A. i. utilize a varied music repertoire from a variety of cultures and eras. k. utilize music to communicate with clients.).
Applying for Continuing Education credits: You are eligible to apply for up to 2 credits (for 120 minutes of content) from a non-CBMT Approved Provider. If requested, I can provide you with proof of attendance and the CBMT domain areas addressed (listed above). You will need to summarize your learning experience and its application to music therapy practice, referring to the relevant CBMT Board Certification Domains.
